Walking the Walk

Much of the summer for us has involved spending time with family and friends and looking for ways to have fun in the process. In addition, we’ve been looking for volunteer opportunities in our community. So, when I got word that the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN) would host a 2.5 mile walk in Houston, I jumped right on board. I thought it would be a great way to help raise awareness for a good cause and further my goal of staying in shape at the same time.
Food allergies are prevalent in about 4% to 8% of children and between 1% and 2% of adults. More than 12 million Americans suffer with food allergies and it is the most common cause of life threatening anaphylactic reactions. The mission of FAAN is “To raise public awareness, to provide advocacy and education, and to advance research on behalf of all those affected by food allergies and anaphylaxis”.
This event will raise funds to find a cure for food allergy and to educate others. There are events taking place in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas and many other states. Please visit http://www.foodallergywalk.org to find an event near you. We have registered team “healasister” to raise funds for the cause in Houston. Our fundraising goal is $500. Please support our fundraising efforts with your donation. The donation is tax-deductible. Any amount is greatly appreciated. You can find our personal page by visiting the site and clicking the “Donate” icon. Our team name is Healasister, or you can search using my first and last name- Nanette Hartley.
